Why Ministerial High Salaries Issue Never Goes Away After So Many Years?

SINGAPORE - Describing the issue of ministerial salaries as the Opposition's "favourite flogging horse", Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong said yesterday that the "majority" of the population were not concerned about it.

Speaking after a walkabout in Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency (GRC), Mr Goh said: "All they want (to know) is: Have we produced jobs for them, can we look after their medical care, can their medical care be affordable, can we cope with the cost of living, can we deliver good housing at affordable prices?

"These are the issues that are of concern to them and these are the issues the Government is addressing."

Still, Mr Goh acknowledged that the issue - which has been "flogged over so many" General Elections - has cost the PAP "some votes".

Do you think SM Goh is out of touch with the ground feeling that their high ministerial salaries are unjustifiable considering the fact that Tom, Dick and Harry can easily too come up with the idea of having more casinos and pumping more foreigners into Singapore? On one hand SM Goh is saying no issue but on the other hand he is also saying costing PAP some votes, so is it no issue that doesn't bother or cost PAP some votes or it is an issue that cost PAP some votes? If it is no issue, why is it after so many years, people are still talking about it and never really close the issue? If no issue, shouldn't this matter be closed quickly, but yet the reality is after more than a decade, the people are still grumbling on the ground, so what is SM Goh trying to do?

which planet is GCT living in..??? when is reality ever going to dawn on him..??
it is apparent that he is so not in touch with people on the ground. maybe it is time for GCT to attend an Opposition rally.!!!

MR GCT/PAP thinks everything can be solve by money! More minister pay means better ministers? Bring in casino means more jobs and more money for people?

I dont think so! Its just that they refuse to measure social cost as it is a more difficult indicator to measure. Look at us for the last five year, more jams on the road, house price increase like hell, you wake up earlier to get to work but come home later....you spend more on food as food price rise and rise..only the salary didnt rise :0)

Do you know that tertiary education costs have been increasing non stop over the last few Singapore General Elections?

It's so expensive, how to afford to have 3 children?

Only know how to import more foreigners, pay me less than $1 mil, I also got this "brillant" idea.
