Why PAP should not use old tactic "Vote for your future" SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has reminded Singaporeans of
what is at stake for the country in the coming General Election.
He said there are arguments from both sides during the hustings and that
is natural. But polls are not about who wins the argument. They are
about who can look after the future of Singaporeans and turn Singapore
into a place of opportunities. |

He said: "There are a lot of arguments and debates, firing on both
sides every time there is an election and that is in the nature of
contests. But it is worthwhile remembering this is not over who wins the
argument. "This is over who can do better for Singapore and
Singaporeans, who can look after the future better and make this a place
which will be with more opportunities, more secure lives, with more
prosperous economy and stable society for you and your children, and that is
what is at stake when you go to the polls and that is what you have to
decide.

PAP past strategy of always repeating polling is not only about debates
and arguments and it's about who voters can look after the future of
Singaporeans doesn't appear likely to work this time, much rebuttals and
negative comments against PAP are still continuing online. Previously, such
a scare tactic worked very well because PAP then were truly capable,
extraordinary and forward thinking. But now after casinos and such great
influx of foreigners into Singapore, PAP appears in the eyes of voters to be
very ordinary after all. To voters, PAP now don't appear to be anything
extraordinary, other than perhaps due to some marketing of how good they are
by offline media that's all.
Voters are not dumb or stupid, they can think for themselves and ask for
themselves - "Huh, you mean that Singapore is paying for millions of dollars
ministerial salaries to implement 2 casinos and always pumping more
foreigners into Singapore to boost the economy? Hey, like that I also can
stand for election and get those million dollar salaries. Why are voters
force to pay top consultant salaries to get such ideas which my 3 years old
son also know?
In fact, this past well used scare tactic or touting past achievements will
not work this time as it now only made the
people boil even more, reminding voters of Singapore how they were too stupid and
too trusting to give a strong mandate and pay top salaries to get ordinary
ideas that can be achieved by much much less exorbitant salaries.
Which brings us to the next logical question on many people minds - er, don't
mind asking what is happening on PAP camp? How is it that they are not aware
of what is happening such that minister after minister including MM Lee Kuan
Yew even repeat the same message once again? Are our ministers and MPs out
of touch with the ground that they do not know what is the feeling of the
voters? Where are their strategists?
Where are their forward thinkers? Perhaps, may be they are real busy and
cannot exactly think ahead because they are under "attack" from more capable
opposition than before, therefore can't exactly think ahead and handle too
many things at one time.
Let's assume for discussion sake, that PAP then did foresee the consequences
to their election bid and is very aware of the consequences to their
election bid that the casinos and great influx of foreigners would have, why
then PAP still proceed ahead? Is it because they think the general public
are push over who can be easily persuaded or simple minded enough to be
persuaded that the consequences will be inconsequential to PAP election bid
or could it be due to no choice and as got no ideas for Singapore that
between the devil and the deep blue sea, PAP have to implement 2 casinos and
have this great influx of foreigners into Singapore?
If this simple observation and forward thinking can be thought of by this simple writer who is not
earning millions of dollars in salaries and doesn't appear to be discerned
by what supposed to be extraordinary men who is still using the old tactic,
then er, something doesn't exactly add up or make any sense. (PS: Hidden message
of a possible way
to get back on track had been placed on www.reach.gov.sg last few months
actually) What are your views? Do you agree with above observation and
logical reasoning? Do you feel that this time voters should be more questioning with
more opposition to help improve ideas? |
