Weakness of PAP exposed : - Lack of robust debate among back benchers
This lack of opposition and robust debate over the years are now
showing pretty obvious among PAP back benchers to observers.
1. PAP questioning on Worker's Party's Chen Shao Mao has backfired.
Worker's Party was given opportunity to emphasize that Chen Shao Mao did
served National Service in the 1980s unlike their own PAP candidate Dr
Janil Puthucheary who stayed many years in Singapore without serving
National Service and only taking citizenship recently and this scored
points among Singapore National Servicemen. Silence is golden to be used
when required, such attacks should not be warranted in the 1st place as
loopholes existed on own side. (Workers' Party 1 vs PAP - 0) |

2. PAP Ms Indranee Rajah's criticism on the WP's vision of a first world
parliament has backfired with Worker's Party Chairman Sylvia Lim
rebuttal - "But let's not forget that the People's Action Party was once
an opposition before, so is she saying that at that time, the PAP also
did not act in the national interest?". This criticism should not be
there in the 1st place as it gives the opposition to use the past to
slap the future. Perhaps the past was overlooked or not known beforehand
to Miss Indranee thereby giving opportunity for Workers' Party to use it
to score points. (Workers' Party 2 vs PAP - 0) See

3. PAP Dr Ng Eng Hen further repetitive questioning on Worker's Party
Chen Shao Mao motivation on returning to serve our country after been abroad
for many years has backfired with Workers' Party Chairman Sylvia Lim
rebuttal questioning of motive of Dr Ng Eng Hen repetitive questioning when
Chen Shao Mao has already said clearly his motivations. Sylvia Lim was given
opportunity to question if Dr Ng Eng Hen is possibly differentiating
returning Singaporeans wanting to serve the people along party lines which
goes smack in the face of previous PAP welcome of new citizens and lament of
lack of Singaporeans talents wanting to serve the nation. "By again raising
the question of Show Mao being outside Singapore for a long time, is the
People's Action Party signalling to Singaporeans that the return of a
successful Singaporean is not welcome? Or is his loyalty being questioned
simply because he is with WP?" See
http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/STIStory_658729.html. In fact,
PAP Dr Ng Eng Hen is alienating himself with overseas Singaporeans who are
watching and considering to return to join possibly the winning team of PAP,
but now with such a repetitive questioning, overseas Singaporeans are likely
to be turn off if PAP is differentiating serving the nation along party
lines. Perhaps due to time constraint and so many other things happening at
the same time and Dr Ng Eng Hen being a medical doctor may be too busy to
think deeper on the consequences of further repetitive probing on Chen Shao
Mao. It's a pity that quite possibly ammunitions for Workers' Party to use
for future rebuttals against PAP are herewith inadvertently provided.

It would look appear that there seem to be lack of preparation before
attacks by PAP and lack of calculations what's likely rebuttal from
opposition by PAP and lack of thought in estimating whether advisable to go
ahead with attacks or not by PAP. Perhaps PAP big guns are not ready or not
being activated and they are sending the small guns to test the opposition.
Perhaps PAP top notch debaters are warming up and getting more fodders for
attack or that are cracking their heads on strategies to counter stronger
and well equipped opposition this time round?
What are your views? Do you agree with above observations? Do you think it
is wise to have more opposition for the sake of future of Singapore? Do you
feel disappointed that PAP this time has not "performed" as well as
opposition? |
