The Truths vs Scare Tactics There appears to be significant unhappiness
and distrust on the ground against PAP which no apology few days before
polling date can overcome. Cynicism and skepticism have crept into the
voters asking why apologise only few days before polling date and not
earlier. This truth made it very difficult for PAP to regain the goodwill
that has been lost.
What are other truths that cannot be denied compared against scare tactics
of using fear and unknown future?
The truth is after Singapore General Election 1991 whereby the PAP
government lost 4 seats to the opposition, the government becomes
more caring and listen more to the ground. The PAP government sets up a
review committee to review costs and make changes to improve the lives of
people.
The truth is after Singapore General Election 2001 and Singapore General
Election 2006. Tertiary education costs kept going up unabated. G.S.T. went
up from 3% to 7%. Healthcare costs went up, transport costs kept going up,
utilities costs and housing costs kept going up too, more and more
foreigners coming in, more citizenship been given, true Singaporeans
proportion getting lesser and lesser.
The truth is PM Lee apologises few days before election in the face of
fierce competition by opposition. The truth is PAP suddenly becomes servants
of the people before election. The truth is PAP suddenly becomes more
listening and attentive as compared to earlier dismissing of complaints as
"noise".
The truth when people gave PAP strong mandate in GE 2001 and GE 2006, PAP
doesn't appear to treasure the strong mandate and pump in more foreigners to
boost GDP at the unhappiness of the ground and only starting to limit them
before election.
Now compared the truth against scare tactics like prices will drop if
opposition win some seats or the lost of ministers will weaken the PAP
government or investors will run away if PAP loses etc.. These are unknowns
yet to be proven and voters are not stupid to know that these are
hypothetical scare tactics or assumptions that are unknown and not proven.
When facing with the truth of the past and fear of the future, the truth
wins cos nothing beats the truth that had already happened. The future is
unknown and yet to be written, scare tactics cannot work for the claims are
on unknown basis without foundations but fears only.
Now after being given strong mandate for so many years and after so many
complaints before election, voters are simply fed up and enough is enough,
if nothing is done now, there is a possible chance true Singaporeans will be
minority in the future if PAP is in power as they may continue to give more
citizenship to foreigners (which is the earlier truth) who are more likely
to vote for them and by then nobody will truly listen to voters cos the
voice is too diluted to be heard.
Voters should therefore weigh carefully the truth and choose wisely now. Don't
make any wrong move that affect own future and children's future. |
