Can PAP make up their mind whether good academic results are relevant for election?

Previously PAP used good academic results as selling point and compared the O Level results of Mr Chiam See Tong against their PAP candidate, proudly showing their PAP candidate good academic results as credentials for the job of MP.

But hey, now when opposition Workers' Party has in their ranks, Mr Chen Show Mao who hold degrees from Harvard, Oxford and Stanford, PAP sang a different tune.

Now in the year 2011, Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo stated that "It's not about your IQ. Of course, IQ is important if you're holding high positions, but for MP it is your sense of your people, your community." So it looks like now that opposition got people with good credentials, PAP changes their old selling point of having good IQ. Does it looks like when it is in your interest and convenient, one uses one set of criteria to "sell" to the people what a good MP should have but when the going gets tough and one should discard previous set of criteria that was "sold" to the people and changes to another set of criteria?
